Adoption promotion
Northumberland, along with nine other Councils, is launching a campaign which aims to dispel the myths that often prevent people from coming forward to adopt.
With over 4,000 children waiting to be adopted in the UK, inclucing around 385 North East children, the 10 councils have been working to encourage more people to begin or extend their family through adoption.
Policy Member for Northumberland County Council Children’s Services, Councillor Robert Arckless said, “We want to spread the word that if you are looking to begin, extend or complete your family – adoption is a wonderful way to become a parent, for both the adults and the children.”
We are looking for permanent, loving homes for children who are no longer able to live with their families. Children of all ages and backgrounds are waiting to be adopted. We welcome applications from all sections of our community.
Alister Brown, Northumberland County Council’s Spokesperson for the North East Adoption Consortium said, “The consortium works on a continual basis, sharing information about our children and adopters to find the right match for children as quickly as possible.”
“The process to become a parent through adoption is more streamlined, so the application, preparation and matching of families is quicker for all concerned; particularly for making the right family match for waiting children. The local council services are also there to support families if they need any help or advice throughout their family life.”
