Trust Life: talking ‘Puffins’
Hello, good afternoon and welcome! How quickly we are skipping through the seasons. Easter has come and gone in a ‘blaze’ of miserable weather, so now we could all do with a little cheering up. And what better way than talking ‘Puffins’!
So much work has gone into the organising, with a very impressive two week programme. The Town Team has tried to provide activities at various locations to ensure as many businesses benefit from the coverage. The story has been picked up by the media, featuring in the Sunday Times, Mail online, Guardian, Journal and soon to be seen in the BBC Nature Magazine, to name but a few. This has created lots of interest from would be tourists, so we really need to capitalise on the exposure.
Businesses will be playing their part by dressing their windows and in some cases creating special lines e.g Pride of Northumbria will have puffin coloured jam and I believe there may just be some puffin biscuits around! Local schools will be involved in the opening ceremony and are already busy with rehearsals.
The puffin festival website has recently been launched, so if you would like more information visit: www.amblepuffinfestival.co.uk
While all businesses are suffering from the economic climate, it is good to see there is interest and take up of premises in the town. I’m not sure how many other towns can boast the opening of two new restaurants within a couple of weeks. Hopefully that means there is confidence that Amble has something more to offer than other locations.
Our second Amble 2020 meeting will take place on Wednesday 10th April. We hope to have a guest speaker from the North East Local Enterprise Partnership, to outline new EU funding streams. It may not sound very exciting but could prove crucial in the coming months when we draw up our action plan from projects identified within the A2020 document.
Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 17th July and this is the opportunity for members to hear about Trust activities over the last year and what is proposed for the coming year. We are hoping to have local chef Richard Sim as our guest speaker. Richard is currently setting up one of the new restaurants which are about to open, which I believe is to be a ‘Crab Shack’ using locally caught shellfish.
And finally once again I would like to thank the band of volunteers who give up their time to carry out such a variety of tasks around the town, from litter picking, planting, representation at meetings and of course organising events and activities. Time is precious for everyone, its how you share it that makes a difference.
By the way I’ve had it on very good authority that we are to expect a heat wave in May!
