PSHE and Human Red Ribbon Day
JCSC students raising money for World Aids Day.
As part of the JCSC federation Personal Social Health, Citizenship Education curriculum, all students from Year 5 to Year 11 took part in a whole day of lessons which focussed upon safe relationships, geared specifically to their age and understanding.
As part of the day and to support the Stand Up and Stand Out campaign for the Terrence Higgins Trust World Aids Day some of the students took part in a lesson devoted to raising awareness of HIV/AIDS as a global issue. At both sites some students were asked to wear a piece of red clothing: a t shirt, gloves, scarf or hat and collectively made the shape of a “human red ribbon”.
A group of older students also gave their time to offer face painting to the younger students at South Avenue for a small donation painting the Red Ribbon Logo.
‘As part of the PSHE curriculum we are expected to cover a wide range of sensitive but very important areas and issues’, said Mrs Fenwick, Head of Faculty at JCSC. ‘We thought it would be a good idea to tie this in with World Aids Day on 1st December and raise awareness and also some money for the charity whilst also getting a very important message across. We were delighted with the mature response from all of our students and the Human Red Ribbon’ from JCSC was the first in the country to be uploaded from a school on the day. Well Done everyone.’
