A chance to have your say on the future of tourism on the Coast
Local businesses invited to Northumberland Coast AONB Partnership consultation workshops
Tourism is an essential part of the local economy which relies heavily on the area’s natural beauty. It is important that tourism is managed in a way that helps to maintain this vital asset.
The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is protected as one of the finest landscapes in the country. The AONB Partnership is developing a Sustainable Tourism Strategy for the area which aims to develop tourism in ways that benefit people living and working on the coastline as well as conserving its high quality environment and natural beauty. Through consultation workshops the AONB is seeking the views of local businesses on the best way to address these needs.
Cllr Pat Scott, Chair of the Northumberland Coast AONB Partnership said, “I would really like to encourage businesspeople from the coastal area to go along to one of these workshops. Tourism is incredibly important to our local economy but it relies entirely on the fantastic landscape we have here. This is your opportunity to shape a strategy that will guide the management of tourism on the coast in a way that maximises the benefit for business and the economy as well as enhancing the communities and landscape of the AONB.”
The AONB Partnership is undertaking a visitor survey, the results of the workshops alongside the findings of the survey will be used to inform the strategy and develop an action plan.
There are three consultation workshops:
Tuesday 11th December 2012, 2.00pm-3.30pm at the Sun Hotel, Warkworth
Thursday 13th December 2012, 2.00pm-3.30pm at the Grace Darling Museum, Bamburgh
Monday 7th January 2013, 2.00pm-3.30pm at Hunting Hall Farm, Beal
The afternoon will begin with a brief presentation about the importance of the strategy followed by group discussions on the key issues surrounding tourism in the AONB. Tea and coffee will be provided.
