A huge crowd attended the Remembrance Day service which saw wreaths laid in honour of the soldiers, sailors and aircrew who lost their lives in armed conflict. Among those remembering fallen comrades was Clar Hedley, who at 91 is Amble’s oldest surviving Far East Prisoner of War.

Anna thank you, always a day that means so much , memories good and memories that haunt to see so many from my home town paying respect in your photos , I as I stand there see only in my memory my lost comrades , still young lads never forgotten

Yes what a great day for Amble, the sun shone and the turn out was excellent. The theme for Remembrance is lest we forget. So to add to that let us not forget those unsung volunteers who made the day possible, not just the few who organized the event, but also those who gave up their time and effort to make the Town Square look good for the occasion. These volunteers have worked hard over the year to maintain the flowers, clear the rubbish and clean the graffiti. So well done to them and if you can spare an hour or two, try and help. It’s your Town as well as those few dedicated volunteers.
