Brenda sees the torch again
Brenda Rollo, who saw the Olympic torch in Windsor, London, while on holiday with her parents and a school friend in 1948, turned out in the rain to see it again.
Together with her neighbour, she went out at 7.00am to get a good pitch, and sheltered under the arch in High Street.
“I got really wet,” she said. “It was much more exciting than in 1948, when only the torch came through; there were no buses, or free handouts then.”
From her position she was able to witness the ‘kissing’ when the torch was handed on from Logan to Lisa. She had been determined to get there in spite of the weather. “It was worth the effort,” she said.
