Football posts given to Amble teens

Young residents of the Radcliffe Estate in Amble scored today 1st August, when two long awaited 5 aside goals were cemented into place.  Amble’s Neighbourhood Policing Team have worked in partnership with Homes for Northumberland, Amble Town Council and Amble Development Trust to bring the scheme together through the local multi agency problem solving group.

The purchase and erection of two robust 5 aside goals off Priory Park and Dandsfield Square  has provided a pitch that is suitable for all age groups though it is expected to be used predominantly by local teens and youngsters.

The scheme was recognised by the Neighbourhood Policing Team to be a simple facility with minimal upkeep that could occupy the leisure time of a large number of young people in this part of the town.

Local Community Support Officer Darin Fawcett became involved in this project at an early stage with Community Safety Officers Lynsey Green and Clare Hart and has been the driving force behind it.  The production of the posts and work on site was undertaken by some of Northumberland County Council’s Adult Learning Construction Apprentices at Ashington team members who have also benefitted from the scheme in working towards their own formal building qualifications.

Mark Robertson, Stephen Hall, Karl Johnston, Steven Barlow, Richard Gray and Andrew Walton erected the goal posts under the watchful eyes of Syd MacDonald, the oldest and longest serving member of Northumberland County Council’s Adult Learning Construction Apprentices at Ashington.  Also there on the day to oversee the fruit of their endeavours were PC Andy Welsh and CSO Darin Fawcett.

This article has been amended with the correct apprentice scheme name.
