Great Taste Award winner
Spurreli’s Boutique Icecream is celebrating winning a prestigious 2011 Great Taste Award.
They got a three-star award and a nomination for the best speciality food from the North of England for their Pure Sicilian Pistachio ice cream; two stars for the Alnwick rum and raisin, and one star for natural yoghurt with wild berry fruits.
Nick Spurr, director and founder of Spurreli said “We are over the moon with this award. Winning a Great Taste Award recognizes the hard work and dedication that goes into making superb icecream. We never anticipated achieving so much in such a short time, and now hope that the recognition will enable Spurreli to attract customers from far and wide, and highlight the beauty of Northumbrian food.”
The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food, and are now in their 18th year. This year 7481 products were entered. It took 350 experts 34 days to blind taste all the entries and decide which entries would achieve the coveted awards. To achieve the three star rating a minimum of 20 judges need to be in complete agreement that the food delivered that indefinable ‘wow’ factor.
