Trust Life #149
Hello everyone, welcome back to Trust Life – just in time for Christmas!
I hope you enjoyed the two events held recently. Drywater Arts secured funding to host another brilliant community event at the Little Shore, bringing artistic interpretations together, the spirit of community and wellbeing. Events like these take a lot of organising, manpower and money but bring so much enjoyment.
Similarly with the Light Procession to switch on the town lights. There are months of work put into making and erecting the displays as well as organising the procession, road closure and stewarding to ensure everyone’s safety. Then of course there is the ongoing need for fundraising – the road closure alone for the Light Procession costs just under £1500. We are lucky to have volunteer support but more is always appreciated. Without willing hands these events just wouldn’t happen, so a big thank you goes to each and every one of those who give up so much time and of course everyone in the community who supports in any capacity they can.
While I am still not able to offer an update on the Playzone (I know, how long can it take?!) I can however offer a positive update on other Welfare issues. It does look as though a solution to the parking problems on Acklington Road will soon be resolved. It has taken a while (and lots of complaints) but once again thanks go to everyone who has been involved in working towards a solution. Not least the football teams who have had to put up with constant criticism despite trying to reach an amicable agreement on parking land. Hopefully now they can concentrate their time and efforts (again as volunteers) working with our young town members and offering training programmes through the various age groups.
On Neighbourhood Planning – the steering group held the first community consultation days work last month and over 120 visited to see, listen and offer their thoughts on the various designations of all aspects including green spaces, conservation, leisure and heritage. These have all been written up and where relevant will inform the neighbourhood plan. Any suggestions that the steering group are not able to include (that are outside the scope of the plan, as in what is legally required) will be forwarded to the Town Council and where possible used as evidence of proof of need for future projects either by the Town Council of the Development Trust.

So until next time, next year, we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year from everyone here at the Development Trust.
