Pride & Glory rescued again
Amble RNLI All-weather Lifeboat The Four Boys was launched on the afternoon of Sunday 3rd March to go to the aid of a stricken fishing vessel that had no propulsion or steering and was drifting in Druridge Bay with three persons on board.
The crew were paged at 14.25 by HM Coastguard who had been alerted to the vessel. The boat in question Pride & Glory was a 30 ft ex-ships lifeboat that had been converted to a private fishing/recreational vessel and was now based at Amble Boat Club on the river Coquet. She is operated by a father and son team from the Newcastle area, who also had a friend with them on this particular day.
The boat was out fishing in Druridge Bay when she suffered mechanical failure and required assistance. The Lifeboat was launched and made best speed to the casualty. After assessing the situation the Coxswain ordered a tow to be rigged and the vessel was towed back to the safety of her berth in the river Coquet where she was made fast and awaiting repairs.
It is the second time in the last 12 months that Pride & Glory has been rescued – her previous encounter was north of Amble near Boulmer rocks where she had a similar mechanical failure incident and was towed back to the Harbour.
The Amble RNLI Coxswain for this rescue John Connell said “The conditions today made for a simple and straightforward rescue. However, it is not always the case and we would advise anyone in difficulties to contact the authorities before situations develop into something less favourable. We are glad that we could help today”
