Prestigious national award for Amble restaurant, as they open new venture
The Old Boathouse restaurant was voted Best Coastal Fish Restaurant of the Year
The town has been recognised nationally once more, thanks to The Old Boathouse, which was awarded top prize in Fishing News’ Coastal Fish Restaurant of the Year. Restaurants from all over the country were nominated, shortlisted and voted by the public.
The category for seafood restaurant was sponsored by glossy magazine, Coast. Alex Fisher, editor of Coast Magazine told The Ambler: “We were so impressed with the number of nominations and votes for the Sustainable Seafood Restaurant of the Year Award. Many fantastic restaurants were nominated, but well done to The Old Boathouse in Amble.”
Martin Charlton, owner and chef of the Old Boathouse, said “I felt really humbled, considering the quality of the competition. I know one of the Cornish chefs and hold him in high esteem. We got nearly a quarter of the total votes, so thank you all those who recognised Amble and the Old Boathouse.”
In April, Jack Charlton, ex footballer and keen fisherman, cut the ribbon to the Fish Shack at the Little Shore. The shack, an extension of the restaurant, is now serving snacks of fish and shellfish. Martin, his wife Ruth and all the staff do work very hard. “We’ve had our ups and downs, but customers must like what we do, so we’re pleased.”
