Creative patchwork group promote their skills and help local cause

A selection of beautiful handmade patchwork items will be on sale to showcase the skills of local craftswomen and to raise money for a local cause.
A group of needlework craftswomen have made a large selection of unique quilts, bags, cushions and wallhangings, all available to purchase as Christmas gifts. A quilt will be raffled for the Amble RNLI Shannon appeal.
Josie Dunne who runs Funky Needlework in the Old Fourways Centre, told The Ambler: “We’re holding a Patchwork Extravaganza, a traditional sale of work. The items on sale have been made over the last six months. We’re selling all sorts of items, and raffling a quilt made by two of the group.”
The quilt was made by Maureen Gibson and Marian Wallace. Marian said: “Josie taught us techniques for making quilts. We chose the fabrics from here. Earlier in the year, Maureen had the idea to make a quilt to raffle for the RNLI and we’ve been working on it for about six months.”

All the patchwork items have been made by the group based in the Fourways Centre and Josie is keen to draw attention to their extraordinary skills.
“ It’s very much a group activity here at Funky Needlework. Some of this is about raising the profile of artistic and creative women of Amble and the surrounding area.” she said.
The Patchwork extravaganza takes place on Sat 31 October and Sun 1 Nov 10am -3pm at Funky Needlework, Old Fourways Centre, Bridge St. The unique handmade items will range between £2 and £200.
