Gemma is ‘worth her weight in gold’

Gemma Little from Amble, whose late mum Anne developed early onset dementia, has led a second charity walk to raise money for Alzheimer’s research.
Gemma’s ‘Save the Memories’ walk from Craster to Amble, took fundraisers 14 miles along the Northumberland coastal path on 18 July. This year’s walk attracted twice as many participants, with 85 walkers and 10 dogs.
Gemma said “It’s grown so much, next year going to have to expand my team with marshalls for check-in points and directions etc, as that’s how much it has grown!!
People found out about it in local media. So fantastic!! Everyone enjoyed it with most if not all saying they will return next year and many others along the way saying they would like to do it!
My finance even met Sir John Hall walking his dogs who put in a generous donation which was matched by Margaret Turvey at Topsey Turvey restaurant!
Last year with gift aid the walk raise just over 4K. I am hoping to smash that this year, and so far it is well on its way to doing that!”
The Newcastle-based Alzheimer’s Society community fundraising officer, Rebecca Scott, paid tribute to Gemma.
“People like Gemma are worth their weight in gold to the Alzheimer’s Society,” Rebecca said. “Her support is vital to the work we are doing to make life better for people with dementia here and now and to fund researchers seeking a cure for the condition like the scientists at Newcastle University.
‘It’s when I meet people like Gemma that I really feel that we are heading in the right direction in terms of curing dementia and also creating communities where people of all ages are more aware of the condition.’
