Trust Life: stretch your stockings

Posted on 22nd December 2014 | in Community

Leazes-St-12-DecMerry Christmas everyone, time to get those stockings stretched, its nearly time to hang them up for Santa! There is so much happening around the town that it is hard to know where to begin this round up of news.

Let us begin with parking. After many years of perseverance, there is at last some light at the end of the tunnel, and we are making progress. There are new parking orders on Queen Street and soon there will be an extended one way traffic system leading on from Queen Street through to Leazes Street. While this only creates a few additional parking spaces, the main aim was to try to ease traffic flow and congestion along Leazes and Broomhill Streets.

This system has been introduced on a one year trial and will be monitored for its effectiveness. The majority of people who have passed comment think it is a good idea, so let us hope it works and Santa doesn’t get held up in a traffic jam!

There are lots of reasons why it has taken so long to get to this point. Many people have given up valuable time to try to find solutions to the many issues, and this work will continue, but thanks should be offered to everyone who has brought constructive ideas to the table for consideration.

Harbour Village
All good news – we already have businesses signed up to open prior to Christmas and are planning a Christmassy opening in December, so please come along and see what is on offer. Obviously there is still work to do but the pod side will be complete. After all the hard work it’s good to get to the exciting bit.

From the enquiries we’ve had, it is obvious there are many businesses wanting to open up in Amble. Some enquiries we cannot help with, because they require larger premises that the pods offer and there aren’t many towns that can boast they have no empty premises – so Amble must be getting something right!

By the time you receive your copy of The Ambler the Christmas Procession will have been and gone, but we hope you have enjoyed it and joined into the festivities.

I will sign off by offering all our trusty volunteers, whatever you do in the town, a hearty thanks. To our community, we thank you for your support and offer you the very best of Christmas wishes, and a healthy happy new year, from all at Amble Development Trust.
