Hauxley Fun Day is another success
We had another great day at Hauxley on Bank Holiday Monday. The weather was kind and a huge crowd turned up to support us once again, for which we are very grateful.
All the usual stalls were there with a couple of new attractions, the target football in particular attracting a lot of interest with a couple of budding local footballers showing their skills. The sand castle competition had a lot of entries and the winner, a large shark, was outstanding amongst some stiff competition.
The RNLI and Wildlife stands were well attended, the Wildlife stand showing how the new Hauxley Nature Reserve Centre would look. They even managed to recruit some volunteers for the future. As usual the pet show attracted a lot of attention with prizes given out in many categories. Our (almost resident) band again provided some great music that kept everyone’s feet tapping and the occasional dancer.
All the helpers on the various stands, the raffle, face painting, bric-a-brac, bouncy castle, tombola, money tombola, BBQ, refreshments and the bar worked hard before and on the day and the committee are very grateful to them all.
We are also grateful to the many businesses in Amble who supported us with prizes for the raffle and tombola. They are : Zecca, Sea Salt, The Old Boathouse, Spurrelli’s, The Tavern, The Co-op, 42, Queen Street, Circa and Rolands Butchers. Particular thanks to Jimmy Thompson who kindly donated one of his superb pictures for the raffle.
We made over £2,800 on the day which will be used to maintain the village hall so that it is always available for use by villagers and locals. If anyone has a club or society which has need of some excellent facilities at a very reasonable cost, or you wish to arrange a private party, please contact 01665 712181 for a booking.
Finally we hope that a lot of people had a lot of fun on the day and either managed to win a prize, grab a bargain or generally just enjoyed themselves. Thank you for your support and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
