northumberland speech bubble2People who live and work in Northumberland are being asked to give their views on draft   assessments of potential housing sites across the county.

The Council has prepared a document called a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment, or SHLAA. which allows them to understand where sites exist with potential for housing development.  The SHLAA does not allocate land for residential use or indicate that planning permission will be granted. Sites included in the SHLAA have been put forward by landowners, developers, planning agents, the Council and other interested parties, for consideration.

They include vacant or derelict land and buildings, surplus public sector land, agricultural land, and areas which present additional housing opportunities within established residential areas.

The council are now seeking input from people that live and work in Northumberland inviting comments on these assessments until 24 September. Individual assessments of the sites can be viewed at www.northumberland.gov.uk/shlaa and a form for making comments can be downloaded there too.

Following the consultation the Council will consider the comments received and identify where changes are needed.   Individual site assessments will be updated and a SHLAA report published later in 2014.

Comments should be submitted to planningstrategy@northumberland.gov.uk or sent in writing, to Spatial Policy and Delivery Team, Development Services, Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth, NE612EF.  The closing date for responses is 24 September 2014.
