By now I hope you will have heard the good news about the Harbour Village project funding. We offer our apologies, as we were all set to share the news with you in the last edition but were asked to withdraw the information as it was embargoed by the government who wanted to make a formal announcement at an unspecified date. And that wait was excruciating, but it was interesting following rival tweets vying for acclaim as to who knew what! But eventually all became clear and what a relief it was to be able to share some long awaited good news with everyone.
Architects and Project Managers aim to have the specification ready to go out to tender in May and so far we are looking to have contractors on site early July. The Harbour Village development will be the priority as we hope to have this up and running before Christmas. Let’s hope the weather is kind!
Obviously site and visitor traffic will have to be managed and this will be programmed into a work schedule to try to minimise any disruption to businesses and traffic movement.
Regular progress updates will be reported in future Ambler publications, on the Ambler website and through social media: Tweets and Facebook. If however you have any questions or concerns that are not addressed by these updates, please call in to Fourways2 and we will help in anyway we can. If we don’t know the answer we’ll find out for you.
The two posts created will be advertised in the near future, both require a diverse range of skills and will I’m sure provide a challenge for the successful applicants.
Other news that has featured recently in the press is that at long last the Persimmon development looks set to commence – at long last! My understanding is that we may see some activity on site in May.
On the events front, unfortunately our application to the Arts Council was not successful, so we are having to cut our cloth accordingly, which sadly means we wont be able to host the extravaganza we had planned. But the volunteers have worked hard to bring together a range of family entertainment and activities, which we are sure you will enjoy.
The work Anna has been doing with students on a new WW1 GPX trail has revealed some fascinating stories, not least of all the story about a zeppelin and Coquet Island!
Information was passed on by Moyra Nyberg and followed up by the group, who have managed to trace a family member of the lighthouse keepers at the time – it really is a story worth hearing.
At this point I will bid you all a happy Easter but won’t be a spoilsport and say not to indulge by eating too many Easter eggs!
