Many happy returns to Alyson Thompson, who celebrated her 100th birthday on 23 March. Alyson was joined by her family and friends, with staff at Dolphin View organising a singer, cake and balloons to add to the party atmosphere.

Alyson and her husband Alfred Thompson farmed at Silvermoor Farm near Alnwick. Her daughter Louise Tate told The Ambler “Most of her married life was spent as a farmer’s wife looking after an extended family. There was often 8 – 10 of us at the dining table. The most useful presents Dad bought were a dishwasher and a hostess trolley!”

Alyson had lived independently until last September when she moved into Dolphin View.

Four generations gathered for the occasion, including Alyson’s daughters Catherine, Louise and Julia. Her newest great grandchild, Rosemary who is just six months old, travelled 4,000 miles from Alabama in the US to meet her great grandmother for the first time.

“Alyson was showered with loads of love and gifts,” said Jade Milne, activities co-ordinator at Dolphin View. “She had a card from the King and was visited by her family throughout the day.”

Louise said, “Thank you to everyone involved in making this a special day for a very special person, Mum.”
