Amble Sword looking for a venue
Since 2018 Amble Sword Dancers have met every Tuesday at 7.30pm at The Masons Arms, Woodbine Street. Sadly, the pub closed in June this year, leaving not only the community with one less drinking venue but also Amble Sword homeless!
A big shout out to Morrisons in Amble who are kindly providing us with a temporary Community Room where we can meet and practice. It isn’t a long-term arrangement unfortunately as the size of the room is smaller than our needs. We are therefore looking for a permanent venue, for example a function room or hall that has a wooden floor and enough space for us to practise our daring and dazzling dances with Longswords. We are a small side with limited resources and so far, we have not had to pay a fee for the hire of the rooms we have used.
Hopefully your readers will be able to provide our team with suggestions or offers so we can keep the Amble Tradition going.
We have danced at various venues this year in Amble and Warkworth, even venturing down to Northallerton recently to dance with other sides. The highlight of the year however was our Weekend of Dance in June where readers may have noticed an influx of strangely dressed individuals from outside of Amble playing music and dancing Morris and Sword Dancing around the town. It was so successful we hope to repeat the event in 2025. We also perform at local events such as Puffin Festival, Mauritania Day, RNLI and Amble Christmas Light Parade.
If you are interested in joining Amble Sword either as a musician or learning the dance to become part of our team please do come and introduce yourself if you see us out and about, or message us. If you would like to offer us a venue on Tuesdays between 7.30pm-9.30pm contact us on our Facebook page: “Amble Sword Dancers” or email us on amble.sword@yahoo.com
