A message from our new MP

Posted on 05th December 2024 | in Community , Opinion

It’s a pleasure to be writing for the Ambler, which I know is a tireless champion for residents in Amble and the local area.

I hope that over the next five years I can be the same. I make no secret of the fact that my priority in this Parliament is to be a constituency-focused MP, and I hope that over the coming months and years I can be a familiar face to residents, community groups and businesses across the area, as well as a trusted voice in London on the issues that matter to you.

Here’s some of what I’m doing for Amble this autumn:
I recently met with Amble Town Council to discuss local concerns, including the lack of further education options in the area, the stalled development at the retail park, and Coble Quay. I committed to raising post-18 education options in Amble with Kim McGuiness, the North-East Combined Authority Mayor, and look forward to working with ATC to make sure Amble is always being listened to by Northumberland County Council.

I’ve been hosting a number of local surgeries and I look forward to hosting my first Amble surgery on 7 February. This will be an online surgery (details will be shared nearer the time), and all residents of North Northumberland are welcome to all surgeries that I host. Surgeries are an opportunity to share a more complex concern or issue with me that isn’t possible to resolve over email. You can keep up to date on Facebook or Twitter, or write to me for more information.

Finally, I was pleased I recently had the opportunity to raise the issue of the Coquet Grange Estate being neglected by a private developer in a recent Parliamentary debate. It is incredibly frustrating that some private developers are ignoring their responsibilities using a contractual gap. I will be monitoring this situation closely, and please do update me if you’re a resident of the estate.

If you’d like to get in touch with me, whether to raise a concern or find out more about what the Government is doing to support working people you can email me at david.smith.mp@parliament.uk, or you can write to me at ‘David Smith, Houses of Parliament, London, SW1A 1AA’. You can also follow me on social media to see what I’m up to.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

David Smith MP
