Reports from our County Councillors #147

The beginning of the grass cutting season was very stop start; the team have been battling bad weather and the grass was growing fast.

They have been attempting to catch up in all areas, but people’s perception of “its dry and not raining” forget to take into account that in some areas the ground remains wet and if they entered with machines, they could cause more damage. This is a county wide issue, so hopefully a sustained dry period will help. Please be assured we will be making every possible effort to get back to the expected standards.

From Garages to Homes
Regenerating garages and transforming them into innovative homes. Fifteen new bungalows on Andrew Drive, Alndale, Kennedy Road, St Lawrence Avenue and Windsor Terrace converted into comfortable homes addressing the shortage of suitable homes for older people and those with mobility issues.

What is Husk? Husk’s patented system inserts a contemporary design bungalow into a terrace of garages, the existing garage structure is utilised while an additional section, fabricated offsite is added to form the new bungalows, retaining the shell and concrete floors, they carefully reconfigure the terrace into a single space and restructure it fully with a serviced kitchen, bathroom and living and dining space, homes are eco-friendly with an insulated timber frame and roof also air source heat pump.

Providing this type of housing is critical, there is an acute shortage of affordable rental bungalows, with a high demand within Amble.

Regenerating these garages is a fantastic project, seeing the renewal, re-using them to provide a spacious bungalow with easy access to living spaces, helping and enabling people to live safely and independently and comfortably within the community.

These applications are a great incentive and development, I’m pleased the Council is addressing this and providing dwellings of this nature. These will help residents to downsize freeing larger homes for families.

Coquet Steering Group
Members and I visited the refurbishment project at South Avenue School with state of the art classrooms and facilities being constructed, I was very impressed with how the building will look matching and supporting the aspiration of our students.

Enjoy the summer!
