New MP’s message for the people of Amble
David Smith has won the parliamentary seat in the new North Northumberland constituency.
Labour won easily, polling 36.6% of the vote; the Conservatives were second with 26.2%. The turnout was 65.9%
David told The Ambler, “I’m delighted and honoured to have been elected to be the Member of Parliament for North Northumberland.
“Throughout the campaign, I spent a great deal of time in Amble, speaking to hundreds of residents, attending events like the D-day Commemoration and meeting with local businesses and community organisations like Dry Water Arts.
“As your MP, my aim is to continue to be available, visible and accessible to you, and to represent you to the very best of my abilities. I’m excited to get on with the job.”
In a post on X (Twitter) outgoing MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan said “It has been a great privilege to serve as MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed for the last 9 years. Thank you for the opportunity and responsibility, and to all those who have supported me day-to-day to deliver for all constituents.”

*Boundary changes meant the North Northumberland constituency replaced the previous Berwick Upon Tweed constituency which had been held by Conservative Anne-Marie Trevelyan since 2015
Will Amble Development Trust now issue a public comment on the charity’s endorsement of Anne-Marie Trevelyan, in contravention of Charity Commission rules?
