‘People forget what’s on our doorstep’
Actor Robson Green has delighted his Amble fans by taking a cruise around Coquet Island, and having a go at surfing, in his latest TV show.
The star filmed one segment of his Weekend Escapes series, alongside his two sisters. They took a boat trip and learned about the puffins and Roseate terns on Coquet Island from Puffin Cruise owners Dave Gray and Steven Banks.
Robson and his sisters Joanna and Dawn thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with Robson recommending a trip around the island for a family weekend event.
Robson said “People forget what’s on our doorstep. Sometimes the marine life here is off the scale.”
Steven told The Ambler that he and David were thrilled to be involved with the series. “It was a great feeling to find out he wanted to feature us in his new series of Weekend Escapes. It didn’t really sink in until we saw him walking along the quay with his team to meet us and begin setting up for filming.”
News soon spread that the popular actor was at the harbour, and Robson was happy to pose for selfies and sign autographs.
In another episode, Robson and England rugby player Sarah Hunter had great fun learning the basics of body boarding and surfing with Jon Nolan and his daughter Amber, who run Northside Surf. It was a lovely sunny day but the sea was calm, meaning conditions were not ideal for surfing.
Jon told us, “Robson was just like one of the guys, laughing and joking around on a lesson. I was really pleased we were able to get Sarah to stand on her board despite the tiny waves.”
Lorna Watkinson of Rainbow Pottery Painting, Morwick Dairy, Woodland Chase glamping at Old Felton, and Hauxley Nature Reserve also feature in the same programme.
