Thanking the community for their kindness and support
On behalf of the family of Sheldon Flanighan
On behalf of all my family, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to the many people who have shown kindness and support since my dad Sheldon Flanighan’s passing on April 1 2023. The many messages of condolence, with love and respect for my dad have been overwhelming at times. We have taken great comfort from these expressions of sympathy.
For his efficient, dignified and extremely sensitive approach to every request, we are so grateful to John Grenfell funeral director, his staff, caterers and for the beautiful floral arrangements. Being a great friend of my dad, we know this was a difficult assignment for Jonny, his professionalism and composure is exemplary.
Sincere thanks are owed to some of my dad’s closest friends for undertaking their roles as pallbearers and speakers with great distinction, and to Reverend John McDermott and Father David Reilly for providing a private blessing and leading a beautiful funeral service. Thanks also to all the church officials and to Stu Vernon (music) for helping the service to flow seamlessly.
We would also like to express our thanks and gratitude to the management and staff at The Bede, for hosting a fantastic and memorable celebration of my dad’s life.
We are greatly appreciative of the dedication and professionalism of Northumbria Police, whose family liaison team have supported us at this difficult time.
Finally, a big thank you to all my dad’s colleagues at North East Ambulance Service, for the support given to the family and for the very moving words expressed on the day. We understand a great deal of logistical planning and personal sacrifice was made to ensure a huge turnout. We felt privileged and humbled at the sight of his ceremonial guard of honour and all those in uniform who lined the streets to pay their respects.
We are sorry that we did not get the chance to speak with everyone at my dad’s funeral, but are so pleased and very proud that you were part of such a special day.
