Remembering Julie Baxter
A memorial seat has been placed on Amble’s quayside to remember a ‘community angel’.
A large group of well wishers gathered to toast the memory of Julie Baxter who died at the end of September. Rev Alison Mills talked about Julie’s generosity; she was famous for her baking and had set up a community kitchen in St Mark’s Church. Alison said: “She filled the soul as well as the belly”.
Julie was well known throughout Hauxley and Amble for her generosity, and there were few charities who had not benefitted from her fundraising efforts and support for good causes.
Rachel Cook described how Julie had jumped straight in to help during Covid, joining Rachel’s support group, and baking and delivering food for those in need.
After Julie’s death, a fundraising page was set up to buy a memorial seat, which has now been placed with Julie’s favourite view of the harbour and across to Warkworth castle.
