Dougie takes the helm at the Mason’s

Welcome to the new landlord of the Mason’s Arms in Amble. Dougie Queenan had plans to buy a pub before the Covid-19 outbreak, but understandably was stopped in his tracks as the pandemic took hold.

But as he told the Ambler, now there is light at the end of the tunnel he decided to go for it.

Dougie Queenan is the new owner of Amble’s Mason’s Arms

“I was looking for a town centre pub with scope to expand and improve and after looking at several pubs, the Masons Arms had what I was looking for.

I have visited Amble many times, as I grew up on the Northumberland coast in Seaton Sluice and I have always loved the atmosphere and community spirit Amble brings.”

Dougie’s background was in the British Army and this is his first venture into the hospitality sector. But he has big plans for the Mason’s Arms.

He plans to cater to locals and tourists alike, serving traditional pub food cooked with fresh local ingredients. And at the time of writing, he is looking for five staff, including a chef, kitchen porter, bar staff and cleaner.

Renovations have already begun on the old function room, to turn it into a new lounge, and Dougie hopes to add a beer garden, upgrade the kitchen and bedrooms and add some minor upgrades to the bar.

The pub reopened on 17 May and Dougie hopes to welcome pool and darts teams once again.

“We are hoping to keep the current pool teams, providing the leagues restart, and we would also like to introduce Men and Women’s Darts Teams, so I would ask anyone interested, to please get in touch.”
