Teachers help in covid battle
Teachers at James Calvert Spence College, Amble, have been lending their specialist skills to help the community and fight against the coronavirus.

JCSC science teacher Dan Davison previously worked in NHS laboratories. Using his specialist laboratory skills, he has volunteered to work with them on developing and implementing test protocol.
During this time, Dan has continued to support his students and set work online.
Members of James Calvert Spence College’s D&T department have also been doing their bit, with help from colleagues at Duchess’s Community High School.
Teachers sourced materials and made protective visors, with Duchess’s Community High School providing their laser cutter machine for the project.
Miss Scrimgeour and Mr Donnison, teachers from James Calvert Spence College, and Ms Whitelock from Duchess’s Community High school, have produced 90 visors so far.
Director of Art & Design, Jane Yuill, is now in the process of allocating the PPE to local medical key workers and businesses, with plans to make more and deliver them in coming weeks.
Some of the visors will be used by James Calvert Spence College’s kitchen staff.

“Mr Davison’s work is making a real difference and we’re very proud of him. The D&T department has also gone above and beyond to help respond to a local need for PPE. I would like to thank them for their efforts and extend that thanks to our neighbours at Duchess’s Community High School in Alnwick for working together with us to produce the much-needed visors.”
