Great results for Coquet Windsurfing Club
Saint Mary’s Loch near Selkirk, was the venue for the seventh NEWS (North East Windsurfing) event of the season and the weekend was shared with the Scottish National Windsurfing Championship.
Six members of the Coquet Windsurfing Club (Coquet Shorebase Trust) raced against others from across Scotland, the North East and five lucky people returned to our region with trophies!
The two day event at the beginning of September consisted of four races with a westerly wind on the Saturday, but only two on Sunday as the, now easterly wind dropped in the afternoon to an unworkable level.
There was excitement in every race with false starts, equipment breakages, unpredictable gusts created by the hills and valley and photo finishes. Competitors raced on a variety of boards including Techno, RSX and Raceboards. Race officer duties were ably performed by RYA Scotlands Robin Nichol and NEWS Silmara Hodge.
Gus Takiguchi left Saint Mary’s Loch with the biggest smile on his face having knocked Tom Dryden off his long-held position as Scottish National Raceboard Champion earning the added bonus of bringing home the trophy.
Other notable winners included: Aaron Hobb: Men’s RSX, Natalie McWilliams: Women’s RSX, Ali Claydon: Women’s Raceboard, Pip Heywood: Junior Raceboard and Leo Takiguchi came second in the junior Raceboard. A great result for Coquet Windsurfing Club based at Coquet Shorebase Trust, Ladyburn Lake, Druridge Bay.
Many thanks go to Bruce and Ann Scott who were fantastic hosts and to NEWS’s sponsors…..Tushingham and the Surfstore.Saint Mary’s Loch near Selkirk, was the venue for the seventh NEWS (North East Windsurfing) event of the season and the weekend was shared with the Scottish National Windsurfing Championship.
