Giving you quicker access to your doctor
We know that getting to see a doctor has been frustrating and difficult at times so we are changing the way that we work to enable you to get help from us more easily, as the demand for GP appointments continues to increase.
Now you will not have to rely on calling early or persuading our receptionist that your case is urgent in order to get seen on the day of your choice.
Around the country it has been found that the closer people book to the date that they want to be seen, the less likely are they to fail to attend. This means that less time is wasted and the doctor can see you sooner.
It will no longer be necessary therefore, for you to book appointments in advance.
Practices all around the country have started working like this and they have found that where they offer this service, patients are much happier with the service that they get.
HOW IT WORKS:
We will only pre-book 20% of our available appointments. This has been supported by capacity and demand analyses carried out in practices.
All of our other appointments will be released on the day so that when you contact the surgery to ask for an appointment, you should be offered an appointment on the same day.
We will still have an on-call duty doctor each day to enable anyone who is acutely unwell to speak to a doctor and, if needed, be seen in an “emergency appointment”.
If you just want advice or some other type of help from the doctor and this can be done via the telephone, then you will be able to request a telephone consultation appointment.
