News from Coquet Yacht Club
Congratulations to Mark Phillips who has just qualified as an RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor which continues our move towards becoming an RYA Training Establishment.
Alongside this we have just purchased two Bahia sailing dinghies which are excellent for training. They have been on the water with sailors aged between 16 and 60. That’s the beauty of this type of dinghy: they are good for all ages which fits our strategy of appealing to all, particularly families.
With the balcony completed and the “river lounge” almost complete, friends, families, members and visitors can watch the activities of the club and “comment” on their enjoyment while sipping a glass of wine with perhaps a tasty bite to eat.
Our membership continues to grow and our aim of being appealing to Amblers is succeeding. Even Aussies who have just moved to Amble were ushered down to CYC by the Town Mayor! Thank you, Craig.
We’ve had a very successful offshore racing season and most of the yachts are now out of the water ready for a good cleaning and maybe some tender care.
We recently had our annual “Guardian Angels Evening” where we invite our local life boat crew, the MCA (Marine Conservation Agency) and the “whirly birds” from Boulmer to say thank you for looking after us at sea. We try to fill them with drink and food. Not an easy challenge.
The club is open Wednesday and Friday evenings, all day Saturday and Sunday for Lunches. As part of our objective to become a base for most water activities we’ve been asked to host a surf kayak competition, which is part of a national surf series. This will take place March/April 2015. For more information on this event please contact CYC member Darren Broderick on 07967 833610.
This time of year sees the moorings team carry out their work, our new moorings raft the job is somewhat safer and easier.
If you are interested in a mooring please contact Michael Irwin on 07806 862294. For membership contact Mark Aberdeen on 07736 690144.
For functions, with an unbelievable view, contact Cliff and Pam on 07850 241186. For general enquiries contact me, Phil Derry, on 07710 423550. Come and see us and enjoy the atmosphere.
