Money matters to carers

A local charity has been helping carers get advice and support with money worries.
Carers Northumberland, who support those caring for a family member, friend or relative who is sick, ill, elderly or disabled, have seen a significant increase in the numbers of carers needing support and advice on benefits and financial matters.
Anne-Marie Johnstone, Information Officer for Carers Northumberland said, ‘Many carers miss out on vital benefits as they don’t identify themselves as carers;  but if they’re providing support and care to someone on a regular basis they may be able to claim Carers Allowance, which will help the family finances’.
The charity will be hosting a series of Money Talks events around the county in May, June and July, where carers can speak directly to advisers able to help them think about their finances and the arrangements they need to consider.
In the meantime, if you would like help or information about your caring role or carers’ benefits, get in touch with Carers Northumberland on 01670 320 025/0844 800 7354.
