Bus route saved but timetable reduced
The Links Estate bus route, described in detail in our last editon, has been saved, but considerably reduced.
Of the seven journeys that run daily on route 472, three will be cut from the end of next month.
From April 1, the first service of the day will be 9.53 at the Fourways, getting you to Newcastle by 11.33.
There will be three more at 12.10, 14.10 and 16.10, meaning that the latest time you can leave Newcastle on the return journey is 14.40.
The County Council explained that Arriva has cut its services earlier in the morning and at 18.10, because of low usage. The Town Council decided it could not afford to subsidise them.
Ian Coe, the County’s transport support manager said, ’We hope Links Estate residents will make full use of this bus to ensure its long-term future.’
