Join the Young Rangers

Do you have a passion for the environment? Are you aged between 13 and 20, live in or near to the Northumberland Coast Area of Natural Beauty and available on Saturdays? Then why not join us?

Young Rangers on the Coast are a group of young people aged between 13 and 20 who undertake practical tasks to help to conserve and enhance the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Young Rangers’ task days are usually on Saturday between September and May about twice per month. The tasks are usually practical conservation, sometimes there are training and learning sessions, monitoring work or planning days. Task days start and finish in Seahouses and we provide transport, lunch, protective kit and tools.

Our Last Operation Christmas Child

I would like to thank everyone who donated gift filled shoeboxes and funds to this year’s appeal and those who attended the coffee morning at St Cuthbert’s Church on 12th November.

At the time of writing we have received a total of 955 shoeboxes which will be despatched to Romania where they will be distributed to poor and disadvantaged children in time for Christmas.

St Cuthbert’s Church has supported Operation Christmas Child for twelve years but sadly this has been the last time we will be collecting boxes due to the logistical difficulties caused by the planned closure of our regional distribution centre in Newcastle in December. We understand that this has caused a great deal of disappointment but if anyone wishes to continue to support the cause they can now create gift-filled shoeboxes on line from as little as £11.00 by visiting http://operationchristmaschild.org.uk/shoeboxworld.

We are grateful to everyone who has donated to this cause over the years, and to all those who have worked behind the scenes knitting and sewing, wrapping boxes, fundraising, collecting in boxes and delivering them to the distribution centre. Your efforts have brought light into the lives of many thousands of children in Eastern Europe and Africa, who would otherwise not have experienced the joy of receiving a gift at Christmas.
