Morpeth Tigers 0 FC Amble U10s 1
NMSL U10s GROUP S ( 27/11/11 )
FC Amble travelled away to Morpeth on a cold and blustery morning with their team decimated to just the bare minimum with no substitutes available due to injuries .
Amble kicked off and quickly settled in to the slick passing game that has served them well and were on top in the opening exchanges with the best chance falling to J Ford who smashed the ball off the frame of the goal . Ford then played in D Handyside who had his shot well saved by the home keeper . Amble continued to press and were worthy of the lead when the ball was played in to R Paton who held off the defender and rolled the ball to J Ford who finished clinically . R Paton then had a shot of his own just before the interval which went just wide and Amble went in to the break 1 0 up and in control .
Morpeth came out after half time and began to get a foothold in the game and forced Amble Keeper T Hall in to 2 good saves within the space of 2 minutes . Amble created another opening on 35 mins when D Handyside flicked on a header which was controlled by R Paton before striking inches over the crossbar from the edge of the area . Amble created their next chance from a J Ford corner when D Armstrong turned the defender before cutting inside a flashing a great strike narrowly over . With a couple of Amble players continuing with knocks and absolutely shattered by the sheer effort they had put in Morpeth took control of the game in the closing stages putting them under a massive amount of pressure . A mixture of brave goalkeeping by T Hall and mammoth defending by B Handyside and M Kerr who were both fantastic all day saw Amble through to the final whistle with their 1 0 lead in tact .
Manager Barry Paton said “ this was a great game of football by 2 very good teams and I am delighted firstly by the massive amount of physical effort the lads put in today and obviously by the fact that we managed to come away with the victory “
