How I said Bah! to cancer

You’d think, with so many people being diagnosed with cancer, that books about cancer would be in demand, but… you’d be wrong.

When I started writing my book about surviving breast cancer, the message I had from publishers was loud and clear. ‘Cancer books just don’t sell,’ one friend-of-a-friend told me. Another editor wrote, ‘I’ll take a look at your proposal – but please be aware that I get a cancer book proposal every week.’
So – no market and a lot of people trying. Well, I like a challenge. I wrote the book; I found an agent; and my agent found a publisher, Hay House, the biggest health and self-help publisher in the world.
So ‘How I Said Bah! to cancer: a guide to thinking, laughing, living and dancing your way through’ will be published on the 3rd of October this year. I’m excited; I’m astonished; and I’m really, really hoping that my book will help a lot of people to get through a difficult time in their lives.

Stephanie Butland is originally from Amble and has recently returned to the area.
