Help animal sanctuary

Posted on 16th December 2010 | in Community , Letters & Email

Eden Animal Rescue would like to say a huge thank you to all of the people in your area for their generous support during the severe weather conditions in December and January. You will recall from the BBC Look North programme in early January that our animal sanctuary for homeless cats and dogs was cut off for 4 weeks apart from the help of a couple of trusty volunteers with their 4 x 4 vehicles and a few hardy souls that walked the 3 mile round trip from the main road to the centre.

The support from your area made the difference between desperation and manageability and the team at Eden Animal Rescue are truly grateful.

The winter months are on us once more with the temperatures at Shap continuing to plummet and the need for heat lamps and extra food is becoming vitally important. As I sit and write this letter, the snow which started a few days ago continues to drift and the centre is now virtually cut off by them and only passable with extreme care in a 4 x 4 vehicle. Our main concern is what happens if we lose the electricity? (We lost it for a minute or so today and we had a major panic!). How will we keep the animals warm? How will we thaw out the water so they can drink? How will we clean their pens? The answer we believe is to purchase a generator so we will always be able to provide these facilities.

To do this we need funds so I am appealing to your readers: if they can find it in their hearts to make a donation to Eden Animal Rescue to help our 4 legged friends then we would be so happy. Knowing that they were warm and well fed would help ease the heartache of these poor creatures until we find them safe and loving homes.

We can be contacted at the address below.
