Having problems with transport?

Posted on 22nd October 2010 | in Community

‘Getabout North Northumberland’ is a community transport scheme developed by WRVS and T.I.N.N. to help residents who may find public transport options difficult. They use both cars and minibuses to help people who have difficulty travelling throughout the region. The eligibility is wide and transport can be flexibly arranged to suit the individual. Drivers are carefully trained, CRB checked and insured.

A membership fee of £5.00 is required to join the scheme and is renewable annually. Every passenger is then charged 40p per mile for each journey. Clients are matched with a volunteer close to them to keep the costs as low as possible, however a charge could be made to cover the volunteer’s journey to the pick up. These volunteers can offer far more support than other options. Both groups and individuals can access the service.

For further details individuals should contact Tel 01835 864789, email CSGINN@wrvs.org.uk , website www.wrvs.org.uk. Groups should contact Tel 01665 605780 email getaboutnn@btconnect.com website www.TINN.org.uk.

The scheme is always on the lookout for new volunteers, so if you feel you could help contact one of the above numbers.
